Foncalieu Carignan

Carignan is a late ripening variety that is rarely produced as a single varietal wine.  It is naturally high in tannin and acid, so it shows it’s best when produced from very old vines which concentrate the fruit and balance it out.  Foncalieu’s old Carignan vines lay in infertile limestone gravel soils in a skinny slice of land called the Coteaux d’Ensurene.
